Book Reviewing as a Hobby

Stamp collecting can be a hobby. Collecting unique teapots can be a hobby. Did you know that book reviewing can be a very fulfilling hobby?

Book reviewers start off just enjoying the act of devouring books. They love to read and would choose a bookstore over a day at Disney World. When travelling, they pick up books everywhere they go and might even note inside of them where they got them. Books are their hobby. Then why not incorporate book reviewing into that pastime?

It is really easy as most avid readers are already reviewing books whether they realize it or not. Every time you tell a friend about the book you just read, you give a review. Think about it. You tell them what you loved about it and what you didn’t like, and even made a suggestion on whether you think they will like the book or not. You gave a review.

Then why not go that extra step and start publishing those reviews?

You discover so many fun things when book reviewing turns into a hobby of yours. First, you find that there is no shortage of books to read. You probably have tons in your own home that you have read in the past or that you are dying to read right now. This gives you the excuse to read them all over again or pick up a new one and lose yourself in it.

Secondly, you get to meet some really great authors and develop friendships with them. The hobby becomes so much more fun when you get to know the authors and interact with them. You’ll find that many authors will start to approach you and give you free books. You’d be surprised how many you can get in a month’s time.

As you write book reviews, you also begin to look at books in a whole new way. You find new aspects of them and new depths to explore. Writing book reviews is fun as it communicates with other readers and to the author.

Reading is already a hobby. Why not just deepen that love of books into a hobby of writing book reviews?

AUTHOR BIO :

Rebecca Graf was born in Russellville, Kentucky but grew up in Dothan, Alabama. She graduated from the University of Montevallo with an accounting degree. Given the chance to try her hand at writing, she began writing online articles leading to her first published book, A Gift for a Mouse. From there she ventured into romance, mystery, comedy and drama. The passion of writing was discovered. She currently lives in Wisconsin with her husband and three children.
